It has been around three weeks since the police found the body of Gabby Petito († 22) in the US state of Wyoming. Now the cause of death of the young woman has officially been clarified.
On Tuesday evening (Swiss time) the responsible forensic doctor Brent Blue presented the autopsy report. The result: Petito was strangled. In addition, the victim’s body is said to have been lying at the site for three to four weeks before the search parties found the body. The investigators had assumed a murder before this forensic medicine report.
Petito’s fiancé is still missing
It was on September 11th when the parents of Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito officially reported their daughter as missing. The woman had previously set off on a road trip through the United States with her fiancé Brian Laundrie, from which Gabby was never to come back alive.
The police discovered Petito’s body on September 19 in a national park. The investigators quickly assumed a homicide. Brian Laundrie quickly became the prime suspect. He had returned on September 1 without Gabby Petito. When the body of his fiancée was found, Laundrie went into hiding. He is still being searched for today. (cat)
