Gabby Petito’s parents sue those of Brian Laundrie

Gabby Petito’s parents have filed a complaint against those of Brian Laundrie. They accuse them of having been aware of the murder of their daughter and of having helped the young man to flee.

1er Last September, Brian Laundrie returned home alone to Florida aboard the van in which he had been traveling for several weeks with his fiancée Gabby Petito. On his return, while the parents of the girl could not hear from him, Brian Laundrie did not want to explain his disappearance. Refusing to collaborate with the police who had opened an investigation, he buried himself in silence before disappearing himself on September 13th. And while Gabby’s corpse was discovered in a national park in Wyoming, Brian, meanwhile, was found lifeless in a Florida nature preserve. The autopsies revealed that the young woman of 22 years had been killed while her companion committed suicide. The FBI determined last January that the American was responsible for the death of his companion, indicating that he had written a confession in his notebook before killing himself.

From the start of the investigation, the Petito family implicated the parents of Brian Laundrie, accusing them of having helped their son to flee and hide. Like the young man, they too refused to collaborate with the authorities at the time. Last Thursday, the parents of the victim therefore filed a complaint against them, reports “People”. The complaint notably accuses Brian’s parents of not having informed those of Gabby when their son came home without her. “Brian Laundrie is believed to have informed his parents, Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie, that he murdered Gabrielle Petito,” reads the document obtained by WFLA. “On this same date, Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie spoke to attorney Steve Bertolino and sent him a warrant on September 2, 2021.”

“It is believed that they were making arrangements for him to leave the country”

A camping trip by the Laundrie family, organized just after the son’s return, while the Petitos were trying to locate their daughter, is also pointed out. The parents also claim that Roberta Laundrie blocked the phone number of Nichole Schmidt, Gabby’s mother, at the same time. “While Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt desperately sought information regarding their daughter, Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie kept Brian Laundrie’s whereabouts secret, and it is believed that they were arranging for him to leave the country,” can we still read.

Richard B. Stafford, the Petito family attorney, said in a statement, “Christopher and Roberta had multiple opportunities to disclose to Joe, Nichole or authorities that Gabby was no longer alive and direct them to his body. Instead, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie showed callous indifference to the suffering of Gabby’s family and added to her family’s anguish, pain and suffering through their actions. For that, Christopher and Roberta must be held accountable.” Steve Bertolino, the Laundrie lawyer, who is also implicated in this complaint, defended himself. According to the complaint, the latter “had several conversations” with Brian’s parents between the death of Gabby on August 27, 2021 and the departure of their son from Wyoming on August 30, which he strongly denies.
