Gabriel Attal wants to “stay the course” of a public deficit below 3% of GDP in 2027

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal affirmed on Tuesday that he wanted to “stay the course” of a return of the public deficit below 3% of GDP by 2027, thanks in particular to “controlling our spending” and not to “too much taxes.”

He also launched a plea for the “debureaucratization” of the country.

“We will stay the same course: get the public deficit back below 3% by 2027, thanks to more growth, more activity and control of our spending; not thanks to too many taxes,” declared Mr. Attal during his general policy statement, adding that “the first savings proposals for the next (budget) will be announced in March.”

He hoped that these proposals “will very quickly give rise to discussions with the national representation”.

For him, “the prerequisite for France’s rearmament is budgetary responsibility”.

The Prime Minister said he also wanted to “debureaucratize France”, referring to “60 billion euros” lost each year “because of the procedures and complexities of daily life”.

He announced the launch “after the summer” of a new stage of labor law reform, to “liberate the energies of our VSEs and SMEs”, by “considerably simplifying their daily lives and allowing them to negotiate certain rules directly, company by company.”

For him, this desire for simplification “is not limited to work”: “We will evaluate the standards that can be removed or simplified, with the French, with professionals, with elected officials, we will look at the procedures that can be improved, all topics are on the table,” he said.

To “refuse the principle of annuity”, moreover, he mentioned “a bill in the spring” which “will make it possible in particular to unlock certain professions such as trustees or even online sales of medicines by pharmacies”.

The Prime Minister also indicated that it would be possible “from this year” to file a complaint online, “anywhere in the country”. He also assured that “all bodies, committees and others, which have not met in the last 12 months, will be abolished”.

“Bureaucracy that retreats is freedom that advances,” he concluded.
