This is an open-hearted interview. This May 29, 2022, Gad Elmaleh decided to lift the veil on one of his old addictions: alcohol. He thus returns to his heavy consumption and the way in which he stopped everything.
His confidences are very surprising. On the occasion of the promotion of his new show, Gad Elmaleh accepted to be questioned by the Sunday newspaperin an interview published on May 29, 2022. If he looks back on his life, the comedian also confides in his relationship with alcohol. “On stage, I describe myself as ‘an asymptomatic alcoholic’. Some might say ‘worldly'”, he begins by explaining. But in reality, he is sinking into alcoholism : “The alcoholic is not always a guy who rolls on the ground and bleeds from his nose. He is also a classy guy who goes through glasses of champagne while laughing”.
Gad Elmaleh then explains that he was a real alcoholic: “Me, I drank at all times. I was happy, I drank; I was unhappy, I drank; I gave a good show, I drank; a bad show, I drank. It was too much…”. Fortunately, the actor has been able to reduce his alcohol consumption. And that’s not the only addiction he quit. Indeed, the comedian also admits to having definitively stopped the cigarette. In order to find a certain balance in his life, the actor today pursues a spiritual quest.
Gad Elmaleh: “I purify at all levels: in my professional, personal life…”
In effect, Gad Elmaleh has revealed that he takes theology courses and sometimes even offers himself spiritual retreats. If he does not declare himself to be a believer, he confides that “the hypothesis of God [le] makes you happy”. “I purify at all levels: in my professional, personal life…”, thus declares the humorist who never leaves humor too far from him: “The next step is sexual abstinence. No I’m kidding!”. If the idea of total abstinence does not appeal to him, he still admits to writing a text on the subject. “Tantrism fascinates me”. An entire program.
