The Italian artist, architect and industrial designer Gaetano Pesce has died. He was 84 years old and died in New York. Pesce’s work ranged from architecture to design. He is best known for his experimental use of colors, shapes and materials.

Gaetano Pesce’s most famous works

His employees wrote on Instagram: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of the visionary creator Gaetano Pesce.”

He struggled with health problems, especially last year, but remained “positive, playful and always curious” despite his health setbacks.

Flying high with an armchair

He made his breakthrough with his armchair “Up 50”, also called “La Mamma”, at the Milan furniture fair in 1969. With this piece he criticized the position of women in society.

His work can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, among others.
