AI is arriving in force on the smartphones of the biggest players on the market. And with the Galaxy S24, Samsung proves that it can stand up to Google and Apple. The new Galaxy smartphones are available for pre-order and this year, we are entitled to serious updates:
- A new Qualcomm chip
- A brighter screen
- An even more refined design
But when it comes to new smartphone capabilities, AI is in the spotlight, thanks to Galaxy AI.
What is Galaxy AI?
Samsung describes Galaxy AI as a “complete mobile AI experience.” This new addition to Galaxy’s premium smartphones will add a level of “universal intelligence” that the company has never offered before. With Galaxy AI, your communications, productivity and creativity will therefore be greatly improved, in principle.
What are these capabilities? First, it’s important to note that each of the AI functions will be powered by a combination of onboard and cloud AI processing.
That’s no surprise, given the amount of processing needed for some AI-based tasks (and no phone has yet reached the power required for AI to work without help from the cloud).
That being said, what new AI-centric features will we find on the new Samsung Galaxy S24? Here they are.
1. Circle to Search with Google
This feature should make your online searches even more efficient.
From any app, you can long-press the Home screen button, then circle, highlight, or tap any piece of information in the app to launch a Google search, without having to exit the current application.
This function is particularly interesting with the S Pen stylus of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
As for whether the company plans to offer this feature to older models, that remains to be seen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it remains exclusive to the latest Ultra for a while.
2. Generative editing

Generative Edit is similar to Google Photo’s Magic Editor, which allows you to perform complex edits without the need for professional visual editing skills.
Samsung’s Generative Edit lets you tap and hold a subject in a photo and move, resize, or delete it.
This new editing feature will also allow you to enlarge and enhance images using generative fill, simply asking you to crop an image to use AI.
3. Live translation
Another feature similar to that found on Google’s Pixel line of phones is Live Translate.
It adds real-time two-way translation to the Galaxy S24 phone.
Live Translate works in voice calls and text translations, making it ideal for international travel and on the go.
4. TranscriptAssist

For those who rely on voice memos, Transcript Assist will be there to help them transcribe, translate, and even summarize voice memos.
You can customize the presentation of the summaries, and it’s all done on the device, meaning no internet connection is necessary.
5. Chat Assist
If you’re struggling to phrase a message appropriately, whether in a formal or more casual setting, Chat Assist can help.
This feature appears when you’re in a text service like Email, Social Media, or Messages, and offers different tones for what you’re writing.
