Galaxy S23: fast charging will still be limited to only 25W

Several months before its official launch, a model of the next Galaxy S23 series has already been spotted at a certification body with 25 W fast charging, much less than what the competition offers.

One of the next Galaxy S23s with model number SM-S9180 has been seen at 3C, the famous Chinese certification body. The latter confirms that the smartphone will always rely on fast charging limited to 25 W. It’s been 5 years now that Samsung hasn’t improved the fast charging of its smartphonesthe 25 W having been introduced with its Galaxy S10.

On the current generation, the Galaxy S22s, only the Galaxy S22 Ultra is capable of charging at 45W, but this was very disappointing. Indeed, several tests had shown that it was only 5 minutes faster than fast charging at 25W. It is expected that the next Galaxy S23 Ultra will also be compatible with 45W, but the Galaxy S23 and S23+ will be well limited to 25 W.

The Galaxy S23 will always be seriously behind the competition

By limiting its fast charging to only 25W, the delay that Samsung had accumulated over its competitors will widen even further. As a reminder, most Galaxy S22 rivals such as Xiaomi’s smartphones are already able to recharge in just 20 minutes at a power of 120 W. For their part, the Chinese Oppo and OnePlus had bet on fast charging at 80 W on the Find X5 Pro and the OnePlus 10 Pro. However, OnePlus had introduced 150W fast charging on its OnePlus 10T, and is reportedly planning to equip its upcoming OnePlus 11 Pro with 100W fast charging next year.

It is complicated to know why Samsung has still not improved the maximum recharge power accepted by its batteries. We imagine that itThis could have something to do with the rather limited cooling of the Korean manufacturer’s smartphones. Fast charging creates more heat inside the smartphone, and therefore needs a cooling system up to the task to avoid deterioration of the components.
