Galaxy S23: we know more about the performance and photo capabilities of Samsung’s next flagships

The future high-end phones from Samsung are partly revealed a few months before their official release. While the South Korean manufacturer is preparing to replace the S22 released last February, many technical characteristics have already made the rounds of the web.

A 200 Mpx sensor almost confirmed

According to a journalist of the site 91Mobiles, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have four photo modules: a main 200 Mpx, an ultra wide-angle of 12 Mpx, a “zoom” x3 of 10 Mpx and a second x10 of 10 Mpx. The configuration of the mobile seems quite similar to what we find on the S22 Ultra, with the exception of the main sensor which would go from 108 to 200 Mpx. This is not the first time that this feature has been talked about. Last August, the integration of an Isocell HP2 sensor (not yet formalized) of 200 Mpx had already been mentioned. This rumor therefore comes to give him a little more credit.

The S23 Ultra is not the only mobile to be the subject of rumors in recent days. The S23+, which bridges the gap between the standard and Ultra S23 models, has also seen some of its features emerge on the web. A certain SM-S916U has entered the Geekbench database (which measures the power of a mobile chip). It seems that, as expected, the smartphone will be born with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and an Adreno 740 GPU. A feature common to the entire S23 range, if the rumors are to be believed.

Goodbye Exynos, hello Qualcomm

The Qualcomm chip should have eight cores: three autonomy cores clocked at 2.02 GHz, four medium cores clocked at 2.8 GHz and a performance core clocked at 3.36 GHz. On the single-core performance test, the S23+ seems to do less well than the S23 and S23 Ultra, but since the mobiles are still in the prototyping phase, this is not very surprising.

The handset’s codename suggests it’s the US version of the handset, but since Samsung is expected to drop its Exynos chips with the S23 lineup, the US and European versions of the handset should be more similar than ever. The leak also tells us that the phone will run on Android 13 and that it will be equipped with at least 8 GB of RAM.

The S23 range should be unveiled at the very beginning of 2023. This still leaves time for rumors to do their job…
