Galaxy Watch 5: soon the menstrual monitoring on the Samsung watch

Samsung will launch a period tracking feature for its Galaxy Watch 5 in 2023.

This option will be based on the temperature sensor of the latest connected watch from the Korean manufacturer. It will thus follow its longtime competitor, Apple, which already offers this function with its Apple Watch Series 8.

The temperature sensor finally useful

The new generation of Samsung connected watches released last summer, with the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, brought a novelty: a temperature sensor. Unfortunately, if the tech giant thus made sure not to be too late on Apple, its sensor had little use compared to the watch sporting the famous apple. The latter made it possible, for example, to follow the menstrual cycle thanks to its sensor, an innovation far from the Galaxy Watch.

It was enough to push the Samsung teams to react quickly. And that’s what happened, as shown in the press release that has just been published. The group thus explains that it has entered into a partnership with the fertility monitoring specialist Natural Cycles, whose algorithm it will use to offer people equipped with this watch “ a more detailed look at their menstrual cycle “.

The manufacturer wants to move quickly on this novelty and should make it available in 32 countries around the world during the second quarter of 2023. To do this, it will not be rolling out a new application, but simply pushing the furniture within Samsung Health to provide space for this period tracking feature.

The service is, according to Samsung, already approved by the authorities of South Korea and would meet European requirements for CE marking. In the United States, validation should arrive quickly, since the Natural Cycles algorithm is already authorized there by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It remains to know the details of the capabilities of this new function. Will it, for example, offer the possibility of predicting the periods of ovulation of the carrier?
