Galaxy Watch: sleep apnea detection confirmed for 2024

Samsung’s connected watches will in the future benefit from a new health feature: sleep apnea detection. The South Korean firm has just announced the news in a blog post published on February 9, 2024.

In detail, we learn that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the American authority in charge of health and medicines, has authorized Samsung to add this functionality to its Samsung Health application.

The company recalls having received approval from the South Korean authority in charge of health and medicines (MFDS) in October 2023.

To use this feature, users will simply need to track their sleep twice for more than four hours in a ten-day period”, explains the South Korean firm. Please note, only people over the age of 22 will be able to benefit from it.

Concerning the deployment of this new feature, Samsung is talking about the third quarter of 2024, which would coincide with the launch of the Galaxy Watch 7. We do not know at the moment whether models prior to this future generation will be affected.
