GAME: a big change for the English retailer, towards a new international trend?

Video game stores are becoming more and more difficult to maintain. In France, we can still count on Micromaniawhich nevertheless merged with Zing to offer a bunch of derivative products, but the brand continues to do what it has done since its beginnings: sell new video games, but also second-hand physical copiesmaking a margin along the way.

Across the Channel, it is GAME who occupies this role, but he will make a huge change very soon. As reported Eurogamerwho interviewed several store managers, GAME will stop taking back used video games in its store. This change will be operational next month, then brands will empty stocks to only sell new video games only. By returning their used games to GAMEplayers could obtain gift cards or an amount to spend only in these stores.

Manager Nick Arran said last summer GamesIndustry.biz that GAME will be the last bastion of the sale of physical video games. The franchise has more than 300 stores in the United Kingdom and will therefore continue to sell boxes, but only in blister packs from now on.

In France, Micromania-Zing continues to pick up second-hand video games, but who knows, it too could follow suit in the coming months or years. You can find a lot of second-hand products on the official website of Micromania.
