“Xbox is almost finished”
By the end of 2023, some reports estimated that the PlayStation 5 was doing much better than the Xbox Series in terms of sales. If there is probably another area in which we can estimate Microsoft’s video game ecosystem lagging, it is that of success. The achievement system is considered less attractive to players than that of PlayStation, notably for one specific reason: there is no reward equivalent to the platinum trophy on the Sony console.
However, the latter serves as a real medal. Saying “I’ve played this game” is like saying “Okay, I’ve really done the trick”. A notable absence on Microsoft consoles which will probably be corrected. In the XboxEra podcast n°192, JJSNorris, Sikamikanico and Shpeshal_Nick look back on 2023. It is the latter who mentions having heard “that Xbox was close to completing its overhaul of the achievement system“.

The new achievement system at Xbox: when?
In more detail, Shpeshal adds that Xbox should at least show this new system in 2024. As for the deployment, nothing is less certain. This revision would then include an equivalent of the PlayStation Platinum; the possibility of highlighting certain successes on their profile; or the distinction between games and their DLC. An initiative which would not be surprising since Phil Spencer, president of the “Gaming” department at Microsoft, had already suggested during an interview with Windows Central the existence of a road map for success:
There’s a hardware roadmap, a services roadmap, and maybe even an Xbox achievement improvement roadmap, which I know is something you care about , to you and many others.
We will therefore have to listen carefully regarding this revision of the achievement system but also our eyes: several exclusives are expected next year concerning Xbox with Towerborne, Microsoft Flight Simulator 24 or even Avowed.
