It’s a very good surprise for this Nintendo exclusive. Basically considered a flop, this game is rather a success in terms of sales.

Very good news for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. This exclusivity for the Nintendo Switch was a success. Since its release on October 20, 2022, the title has managed to accumulate nearly 3 million sales. This regularity in sales would be due in particular to regular promotions which would have benefited the software. It is therefore a similar performance to the previous game, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle over an equivalent market release period.. As a reminder since it went on sale, the very first Mario + Rabbid released on Switch has sold a total of 10 million copies.

In Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, you once again team up with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, but also Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Luigi. Later, you will also discover other companions in your galactic journey. Your objective is to defeat a malicious entity and save your fellow Sparks. In your mission, you will then have to choose a team of 3 heroes (among nine characters) and will be confronted with a whole bunch of enemies, including formidable bosses in this turn-based tactical game.

A nice surprise for a game that had been considered a failure for Ubisoft

This is a surprise for Ubisoft who had declared to be disappointed by the underperformance of their licenseearly 2023. “ Despite excellent ratings and warm player reception as well as an ambitious marketing plan, we were surprised by the underperformance of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope in the final weeks of 2022 and early January » had then regretted the studio in the columns of GamesIndustry.biz.

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, also returned to the reason for this failure shortly after the release of the software. “ We had already released a Mario Rabbids game on Switch. Doing another one, we had two similar experiences on one machine » he indicated. In addition to being released in an inflationary context, the first title working very well. The two Mario + Rabbid would then have competed on the market. “ Nintendo advised us to make only one game on each console. We were a little too rushed, we should have waited for the next console » the CEO then conceived.
