While waiting for the highly anticipated new Monster Hunter, Capcom will soon deliver a new major action-RPG: Dragon’s Dogma 2. This stood out last night during Sony’s State of Play, with a new trailer and the implementation light of a new character class.

Itsuno’s great return

Hideaki Itsuno

In as many decades of existence, Capcom has had time to count some great video game figures in its ranks: Hideaki Itsuno is clearly one of them, he who took over the precious Devil May Cry saga and raised it to the top, with a DMC 5 released in 2019 which won everything (including 7.5 million sales, the highest score in the saga). And yet, make no mistake: Itsuno’s original dream was not to make a beat them all like this, but rather an RPG playable online in a fantasy world. And this from the beginning of the 2000s!

However, at the time, the technology was not yet sufficiently advanced to satisfy his ambitions, which he was only able to realize in 2012 with Dragon’s Dogma, his true heart project. Today, the creator returns with a sequel, Dragon’s Dogma 2, which sees much bigger things and only promises good things : it must be said that the developer and his team have gained even more experience since the first episode… and it shows.

So, to better show off its splendor, Dragon’s Dogma 2 showed up last night, during Sony’s State of Play, with a new trailer. This one can be devoured immediately in our video player above and demonstrates nervous and spectacular gameplay, grandiose combat and a variety of character classes with distinct properties. And since we’re talking about classes, a brand new one has just been revealed.

A new character class

The Conqueror is the new character class that the player can choose. His little thing? She is capable to use all weapons and acquire skills from other classes, making it a versatile and complete style. On the other hand, this has a price since the Conqueror has lower base stats compared to other, more specialized classes.

Incidentally, Capcom took the opportunity to reveal the Dragon Plague, a contagious disease that can infect Pawns (the player’s allies) when they travel between worlds. However, don’t expect big dark circles, a terrible cough and a pale complexion since this Draconic Plague actually increases certain physical and social abilities tenfold…but to the detriment of a “devastating calamity” during the terminal stage.

Finally, the Osaka firm also places emphasis on the Class Masters, characters with perfect mastery of their art. The player will then be able to build relationships with them in order to gain their trust and to access their class or high level skills, called the “teachings of the Master”. In the trailer, we can see Master Knight-mage Sigurd, who definitely has a grudge against dragons for very personal reasons.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 22 for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
