Long-term role-playing games, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Baldur’s Gate 3 have attracted many players and continue to attract newcomers. But while the two titles have, a priori, nothing in common, it turns out that Internet users have found a very real link. And this concerns the bestiary.

Two exceptional games

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has just been released and a good number of players, keen to discover the continuation of the first episode, simply titled Remake, have already plunged into this new adventure. For those who made the 1997 original, the opening onto a much more open world was expected and the Square-Enix developers did not do things by halves. After a first section taking place in the town of Kalm, which serves as both a great tutorial and a storyline context, Cloud and his companions leave the area to head towards regions stretching as far as the eye can see. Without talking about an open world strictly speaking, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth breaks the linearity and the slightly too remote-controlled side of the Remake episode. We certainly cannot escape the well-known mechanics of open world games (with the additional activities, mini-games and other more or less interesting side quests), but this feeling of freedom is really appreciable, especially since the game , as a whole, is really beautiful (except for the dark areas and unappealing colors).

Baldur’s Gate 3, for its part, is a few months later than Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but it has managed to attract a large community of players thanks to its respect for the Dungeons & Dragons work, but also its pharaonic content. With its ultra-solid production, both visually and in terms of gameplay, the cRPG (Western role-playing game imbued with mechanics dedicated to the PC) is a fantastic gateway for those wishing to discover this very particular genre. For this third episode, the Belgian studio Larian really did not skimp on resources and took advantage of the excellent feedback from the community who were able to try out the beta test. For months, the developers have been refining this adventure made of tactical combat, twists and turns and online and offline confrontations. Baldur’s Gate 3 can be overwhelming at first, but once you’re tempted, it’s hard to escape.

An identical bestiary?

While playing through Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Baldur’s Gate 3, players have spotted enemies that look very similar from one game to another. This is the “Mind Flayer”, more commonly known to us as the “Mind Flayer”, a monster that we find in several works, starting with Dungeons & Dragons or, more recently, the Stranger Things series, which inspired by the famous tabletop role-playing game.

In the majority of cases, Mind Flayers live in the depths and resemble very skinny humanoids. Those also called Illithids have special powers that allow them to break the spirit of their opponent to better control them. These Mind Flayers are found in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Baldur’s Gate 3. They are enemies that can be formidable, so be careful when you come across them.
