It’s 6 p.m., time for our recap of the news that shouldn’t be missed. Between the continuing layoffs and the arrival of a big Battle Royale on mobile, let’s go for the JV recap for Thursday February 29, 2024.

One of the biggest battle royales is finally coming to mobile, and it’s coming very soon!

You may have forgotten them but Battle Royale always have the wind in their sails. And this announcement risks reviving interest around the one that interests us today: Call of Duty: Warzone. The mobile version, announced for a long time now, finally has a release date. The title will be available on iOS and Android from March 21. Players will then be able to compete on the Verdansk and Rebirth Island maps in games that can accommodate up to 120 players. And they are visibly eager since 50 million of them have already pre-registered for the game. Note that unlike Call of Duty: Mobile, managed by Tencent’s TiMi studios, this version is signed by Activision.

This 97% rated game that no one has ever heard of made a million dollars in a few hours

Balatro, do you know? It’s a safe bet not. However, it is a real hit and no one saw it coming. It must be said that the title is quite modest. No wonder since it was developed by a single man, LocalThunk. Released on February 20, Balatro mixes poker games and roguelike mechanics and is available for the modest sum of 13.99 euros. And obviously, that’s the combo you needed to win the jackpot. Second best game of the year on Metacritic, 97% on Steam and more than a million dollars raised in just eight hours… This huge success was a surprise for everyone, starting with its creator: “seeing so many people sharing and enjoying this strange creation is incredibly overwhelming.”

The nightmare continues. After PlayStation, it’s Electronic Arts’ turn to fire its video game creators

The milestone of 6,000 people made redundant in 2024 had already been reached, less than two months after the start of the year. And clearly, 2024 does not seem to want to stop there… A new big video game company has announced that it will part with a large part of its payroll. After PlayStation and Deck Nine Games, Electronic Arts is embarking on the layoff race. No less than 5% of employees will be laid off, or around 670 people. The reason ? EA wants to refocus its activity and donate “ending games and moving away from producing future licenses that we don’t think will succeed given the evolution of our industry.” A new blow for the world of video games and we wonder when this massacre will finally end…

While the announcement of the remake of this cult video game has had its small effect, the developer discusses the future of the license

During the last Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, a new remake was announced. This is Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, a remake of the Wii game released in 2010 which made the Disney mouse a hero equipped with a magic paintbrush capable of saving an entire world. While many players greeted the news with enthusiasm, the announcement brought a bitter reminder to others: Epic Mickey 3 never saw the light of day. It must be said that the closure of the Junction Point studio nipped in the bud any hope of seeing a sequel for this popular license. Warren Spector, creator of the first opuses, has given it another layer. Hailing the work done by the Epic Mickey: Rebrushed teams on LinkedIn, he was asked about a potential sequel: “I would love to do Epic Mickey 3, but I have a job that would make that impossible.” But who knows, maybe if Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a success, Spector will be able to bring to life the sequel he’s already started imagining!

After the success of this film with Margot Robbie, a video game will be developed

Did you like the movie barbie ? Well maybe you will love the video game! Mattel has indeed announced that it is partnering with Rollic (Zynga) to develop a video game adapted from the film. As you might expect – at least if you’re familiar with Zynga – this will be a mobile game. The idea is to offer a game service accessible to as many people as possible. After the success of the film, it remains to be seen whether such a proposal will manage to rise to the top in turn. A priori, you won’t have to wait too long to find out because this new Barbie game is planned for sometime in 2024.

The recap is over for today, have a good evening and see you tomorrow!
