Long published only in Japan, the Granblue franchise is one of the biggest names in J-RPG. After two very notable appearances on mobile and two attempts in the world of fighting games, the license is exported to the West for the first time in an RPG with Granblue Fantasy Relink. What is Granblue Fantasy Relink?
Announced since 2016 by the Cygames studio, Granblue Fantasy Relink is therefore an action J-RPG available on PS4, PS5 and PC since this Thursday, February 1st. As for the universe, it takes place in the same world as the original Granblue, and some of the first characters will also appear. Like many J-RPGs, the title presents a colorful universe with environments that will amaze players. But obviously, it is at the level of its gameplay that Granblue Fantasy Relink stands. The game mixes boss fights and multiplayer strategy while offering players a roster of 13 characters, all with very different weapons and gameplay.. A mix of inspirations, but a unique game
What is interesting about this game is that it is inspired by many other well-known licenses, but manages to create a unique title of its kind. As said in our JV Fast, the story of Granblue Fantasy Relink gets closer to Tales ofwhile the boss fights are more reminiscent of the franchise Monster Hunter. In terms of graphics and characters, we’re closer to Genshin Impact, even if the character design is similar to that of the original games. However, the game encounters some problems, especially in terms of the story which begins in medias res and could confuse some.
