Game News GTA Trilogy: A physical and digital version on both Switch?

We finally know the release date of the physical version of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch.

GTA Trilogy had promised box versions on consoles from December 7. Pushed back, the physical versions have so far only been released on PS4 and Xbox One. The Switch version has just been announced for February 11, 2022.

Physical and digital version?

Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be playable on your Nintendo Switch with the boxed version in less than a month. Only one detail remains unexplained: why is there a mention on the jacket: “Internet download required“? A question that we were already asking when the jackets were unveiled in October.

Great System Space Flight

All three games on Switch require 22 GB of space according to the eShop, but weigh in fact 19.8 GB very exactly. Since its digital release, we know that GTA III weighs 2.6 GB on Switch, GTA Vice City weighs 5.3 GB and GTA San Andreas weighs 11.9 GB. However, we know that a Switch cartridge can hold up to 32GB of data. So there should be no reason for the physical version to require any download. Last October, you reported that GTA Vice City seemed to be the “problem”. The eShop only listed it at 119MB on the GTA Trilogy bundle page, while the Vice City page stated “The estimated system space required to download this game is 6.5 GB“.

We will therefore not know exactly the reason for this download required for a boxed version before its release on Switch on February 11.
