Given the number of possibilities offered by Baldur’s Gate 3, you would almost think that the developers thought of absolutely everything that players could do. One player, however, discovered something about Gayle that the developers didn’t really see coming.

SPOILER

This article mentions some details about Gayle’s condition and Raphael’s character. We will remain as vague as possible to reveal as little major information as possible, but please know that we will talk about a few elements of Act 1 and Act 3.

A little reminder about Gayle

If you’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ve probably experienced some moments you never thought possible. The Belgian developers from Larian Studios have indeed succeeded in writing a role-playing game with such vast possibilities that we have the impression that they have thought of everything. The Internet is full of examples where players have carried out this or that task in a completely different way without ever having been prevented from doing so. In recent days, however, a few players have discovered something about Gayle that has revealed the limits of the developers’ imagination.

A few minutes of play after completing the introduction, you have surely crossed paths with Gayle of Waterdeep. This unforgettable magician is in fact one of the most common companions in the game, so much so that you can even decide to start the adventure by playing him. By talking a little with him and progressing in his dedicated quest, you will quickly discover that he has a somewhat… peculiar physical condition. Indeed, If Gayle dies, a projection of himself should come and beg you to resurrect him quickly if you don’t want terrible consequences to happen. If you ignore his advice and let two game days pass after his death, you will be greeted by a short video focused on his corpse. The latter will begin to shine brightly before cause a huge explosion that will end your game. A very particular aspect of this character for which several players have already paid the price. However, some smart people have tried to use this element to their advantage…

The developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t think of everything

By talking a little with Gayle about this particular physical condition, you will quickly learn that the range of the explosion is not infinite. Indeed, the magician himself explains that he will one day find a place far enough from any population to quietly explode if he can no longer control this “disease”. It is with this information in mind that some players have tried to challenge the intelligence of the developers. Indeed, once Gayle dies, it is possible to take her body and slip it into anyone’s inventory (as with any corpse). A player then tried to put it in Raphaël’s inventory for a very specific reason:

I had Raphaël in the camp because he didn’t speak to me near the Devastated Village […]. I slipped Gayle’s body into his inventory before talking to him, then he disappeared.

Without giving too much away, if you have progressed in the game, you know that Raphael spends most of his time in a plane of existence different from that of the normal world. Indeed, he lives in the Nine Hells in the House of Hope. In theory, if you leave Gayle’s lifeless body to him, it should explode in a place that wouldn’t harm you, in addition to eliminating a lot of essential opponents. Unfortunately, the player behind this Machiavellian plan was only greeted witha long black screen then a Game Over when passing the time after giving Gayle’s body to Raphael.

Another player also tried to do the same thing by leaving Gayle in another continent (which is possible in act 3 thanks to an event that we will not spoil), but he suffered exactly the same fate. While one might have thought that Larian had thought of this scenario and would have gotten away with it thanks to a little plot twist illustrated in a cut-scene, Everything suggests that the players were a little smarter than the developers on this one. Given everything they thought about during the game, we can forgive them for this detail.
