Sad news was announced to Baldur’s Gate 3 fans last week, but that’s not why!

No DLC, nor Baldur’s Gate 4 from Larian Studios

While a large number of fans were already rejoicing by imagining the sequel to Baldur’s Gate III, an announcement has just destroyed their dreams… Swen Vincke, the creator of Larian Studios, has simply confided that there will be no other content related to this franchise. In other words, no DLC will see the light of day to complete the story or add intrigue to this already colossal content. Now, the developers want to move towards something new by abandoning the Dungeons & Dragons universe.

In other words, after winning the prestigious GOTY last year, it seems that Larian Studios is not the type to rest on its laurels. There is therefore a good chance that the Belgian company will turn to its Divinity franchise or create a new one. In any case, they have repeatedly stated that something even bigger and more ambitious than Baldur’s Gate 3 will see the light of day in the more or less near future. However, many question the reasons for this decision. Some suspect a dispute with Wizards of the Coast, the owner of the Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property. This hypothesis gained more and more momentum on Reddit, to the point that Larian Studios was forced to speak out on the subject.

Larian Studios, a company full of ambitions

It was on X (formerly called Twitter) that Swen Vincke decided to speak out about this decision, putting an end to the rumors which continued to grow.

Reading the threads on Reddit, I would like to clarify something. Wizards of the Coast is not responsible for moving in a different direction. On the contrary, they really did their best and were a great licensor to us, letting us do our job. That’s because it’s what’s best for Larian.

“We are a company with big ideas. We are not a company created to create DLC or expansions” he explained afterwards, to explain the fact that they will not be making expansions or sequels to Baldur’s Gate 3. He subsequently clarified that Larian Studios is an ambitious company that wants to explore new horizons.. “Life is too short”, he says to affirm that they do not want to remain attached to a very specific license.
