While it is awaited by all action RPG and gacha fans, one of Genshin Impact’s biggest competitors stood in the middle of Time Square to announce the opening of its pre-registrations.
Aggressive marketing
It was this May 11, at 9 p.m. sharp, that Wuthering Waves, the next big free-to-play release competing with Genshin Impact, achieved a memorable marketing coup by appearing on all Time Square screens (video available at the top of the article). This event aimed to promote the opening of pre-registrations for the title, an overall successful operation since the game already has more than 30 million interested parties before its release on May 22.
A commercial operation that leaves you wondering about the cost of implementation. According to various studies of the rental prices of each screen, it would appear that such broadcasting on all of Time Square’s main monitors would cost around $4,500 per minute of broadcasting. A price ultimately more affordable than one might think since the broadcast would have lasted less than 2 minutes.
Availability matter
But if this staging is a dream for PC players, the taste is more bitter for the console public. Fact, although confirmed as planned on PS5 during the Game Developers Conference, Kuro Games, its developer, admitted that the port could take time to release. During a interview with The Loadoutthe head of foreign marketing, Lennon Li, declared “definitely have a console release plan”, adding, this time on the occasion of Unreal Fest Shanghai, that the PS5 version would use the same graphics settings as the Ultra definition on PC.
The console copy will therefore have to be carefully developed in order to avoid a too early release which could harm the title.
