Now that Microsoft no longer communicates Xbox Series sales figures, it becomes difficult to position its consoles against their competitors. However, Take-Two Interactive recently revealed some clues that allow us to roughly determine the number of Xboxes sold.

PS5 vs Xbox: Microsoft lagging behind?

In 2024, the PS5 and the Xbox Series enter their fourth year of marketing. A journey so far strewn with pitfalls which has been punctuated by the component crisis, a real challenge for the ninth generation of consoles which has experienced shortages and exorbitant resale prices. But as the situation has gradually stabilized, it becomes difficult to measure the success of these respective machines, at least especially for the Xbox Series. Sales figures for these consoles will no longer be communicated in the future, as Microsoft explained last year.

For his part, Sony proudly revealed on December 9 that the Playstation 5 had sold more than 50 million copies . Very good figures, which cannot be put into perspective against Microsoft without turning to third-party analysts. Thus, according to Ampere Analysis last year, three PlayStation 5s would be sold against a single Xbox Series in the world. Now, it’s Take-Two Interactive’s turn to reveal more.

Take-Two reveals the number of consoles sold around the world

It’s in his last financial report that Take-Two Interactive revealed the total sales of ninth generation consoles. According to the firm, 77 million PS5s and Xbox Series have been in circulation since December 31, 2023. Taking into account the figures revealed by Sony, 27 million Xbox Series consoles would have been sold worldwide, an approximate ratio of two PS5s for one Xbox Series, contrary to the figures from Ampere Analysis. Obviously, these figures would be accurate to the extent that no PS5 would have been sold between December 9 and December 31. An unlikely scenario during this holiday season. That being said, we can probably estimate that the Xbox Series has sold nearly 25 million copies.
