In a few days, Nintendo will end online services for the 3DS. Most features will become inaccessible, and the vast majority of multiplayer modes will no longer work. Even if the Poké Transfer and the Poké Bank escape the ax for the moment, players are getting organized.
3DS and WiiU online services are almost over!
April 9 at 1 a.m., it will be over. From this point on, online play, leaderboards and other things for games using the Nintendo Network ID will no longer be available on Nintendo 3DS and WiiU. Players with an unused eShop balance had until March 12 to transfer it to a Nintendo account, even without having a Nintendo Switch. However, the manufacturer indicated that purchased games can still be downloaded, and updates will remain available during an as yet undetermined period. Beyond the questions that this poses from the point of view of access to games from older generations, this closure worries Pokémon players who have been transferring their creatures from one game to another for years.
Fortunately for them, the Poké Transfer and the Pokémon Bank are among the rare survivors but, again, things could change in the more or less near future. This is a real problem, especially for those who catch Pokémon in their original version to take them with them from generation to generation. Transfer and storage systems have evolved several times, introducing methods sometimes considered absurd. Regardless, many players try to recover their Pokémon, then bring them, through successive transfers, to the Pokémon Home. This unified system appeared with the Nintendo Switch, and is intended to become the only storage medium.

Transferring all generations to Pokémon Home, a real ordeal for many
Recently a player posted a new infographic summarizing the path to reach Pokémon Home from the Game Boy Advance. Thus, creatures of the Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf Green and Fire Red versions must be sent by exchange to Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Hearthgold and Soulsilver. From there, you have to go through Black / White and Black 2 / White 2 then use the Poké Transfer to send everything to the Pokémon Bank then the Pokémon Home. The Virtual Console versions (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal) follow the same path. As for the 3DS games, namely Pokémon X/Y, Sun/Moon, Ultra-Sun/Ultra-Moon, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphireeverything happens directly via the Pokémon Bank, which must then be connected to the Pokémon Home.
