Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, returns in an interview to the upcoming launch of Ghost of Yotei, which could find itself facing a freshly postponed Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The Ghost of Yotei / Assassin’s Creed Shadows duel will take place. In 2025.

During last week’s State of Play, Sony highlighted a number of upcoming titles, while reminding the upcoming release of the PS5 Pro. The publisher, however, had a little surprise in store, since it announced that Sucker Punch was working on a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. The title is called Ghost of Yotei, and will feature Atsu, a warrior evolving around Mount Yoteia famous volcano in Hokkaido. It will be a story of revenge taking place over 300 years after the events of the first game.

In 1603, this region escaped Japanese domination, and was filled with vast grasslands, snow-covered tundras, and unexpected dangers. It’s very different from the organized samurai clans that lived in Tsushima, and it’s part of an original story that we can’t wait to tell, Andrew Goldfarb, communications manager at Sucker Punch, said recently.

We know that new weapons, including firearms, will be there, and that we can expect the addition of several gameplay mechanics whose objective is to break the repetitiveness gameplay. At any rate, the appointment is made on PS5 for 2025. Shortly after, Ubisoft announced that the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows was postponed following feedback on Star Wars Outlaws. It must be said that the editor is not in the best of shape, with a stock price at its lowest for many years.

Ubisoft confident in the face of competition from Ghost of Yotei

In a press release, Ubisoft announced that its objectives were revised downwardsthat sales of Outlaws were below expectations, that the title would arrive on Steam from November 21 or that all future Ubisoft games would be present on the Valve platform as soon as they are released.

In the case of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has decided to postpone the release of the title to February 14, 2025 in order to allow more time for the polish. This decision is also accompanied by the end of the Season Pass model, which seems to have reached its limits. In other words, 2025 will be marked by the release of two major open-world titles set in Japan. Asked about this during a conference call, Yves Guillemot said :

I want to say that there is a lot of room for very high quality games, and these two games can sell very well.

Regarding the competition linked to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the objective is really to ensure that we offer a fantastic experience, with the approach of the double protagonist with two different and complementary gameplays (embodied by) Yasuke and Naoe, in a setting set in a feudal Japan which should be really attractive, added Frédéric Duguet, financial director.

For now, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the only one to have a release date. Ghost of Yotei could therefore arrive several months after Ubisoft’s game, leaving both titles enough room to exist without facing competition from the other.
