Game news State of Play PS5: PlayStation absolutely must react, that’s what we’re waiting for!
While Xbox recently spoke out, it’s PlayStation’s turn to counterattack… We will soon discover a new State of Play – Sony’s first video intervention for 2024. An event that promises to be quite important , and the JV editorial team explains why here.
What is the “100% Sony” title that you are most looking forward to this year? You’re missing examples, aren’t you? This is normal… For the moment: there are officially no first-party exclusives planned at PlayStation in 2024. Yes, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Foamstars, which are expected next month, are both published and developed by Square Enix. Rise of the Ronin – March 22 – is the work of Team Ninja, while Stellar Blade was developed by the Korean studio “Shift Up”. The same goes for Helldivers 2 and SIlent Hill 2 Remake, which are made by external teams! In short, where have Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch gone? This is why the upcoming State of Play is important.

Imminent speech
If you haven’t seen the information, PlayStation will speak this January 31, 2024 at 11 p.m. (French time) as part of a new State of Play… On the program: “around 40 minutes” with an overview of Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin and news of “other games coming to PS5 and PSVR2”. On his blog, the Japanese manufacturer notes that the announcements will be “numerous” and will include “emblematic video game figures”. A rather enticing outcome, but we hope for surprises.
Because yes, even if the titles of Shift Up (a sort of Devil May Cry in a cyberpunk universe) and Team Ninja (open world action-adventure in Japan – at the end of the Edo era) are attractive, they don’t really stick to the high quality charter of PlayStation projects. Hard to believe that Rise of the Ronin will be as impressive, at least on a technical level, as Ghost of Tsushima.
We must reassure the players
After all, Sony will perhaps release the second part of Jin Sakai’s adventures on Wednesday, but lately, the Japanese company hasn’t really been keen on big single-player games… Last year, alongside the release of Spider- Man 2, it unveiled several game-services (PlayStation Showcase from May 2023). We learned about Marathon, Fairgame$ and Concord – three long-term projects developed by studios acquired by the company in 2022-2023 (Bungie, Haven, Firewalk). Games which currently have no release date, which have only revealed a CGI trailer.
At present, we have the impression that Sony is in some sort of impasse, especially after the departure of Jim Ryan (former big boss of PlayStation), the cancellation of The Last of Us Online project and even the layoffs in the company, between September | last December. Obviously, the Japanese firm – like other players – has undoubtedly gotten a little too carried away with the game as a service and must do damage control. In November, we learned that of the twelve service games initially planned before March 2026 on PS5, half had been postponed due to “quality problems”.
Of course, we imagine that the Japanese company has not put all its eggs in one basket, and we are impatiently awaiting news from internal studios like Sucker Punch (Ghost of Tsushima), Team Asobi (Astro’s Playroom) from Bluepoint (Demon’s Souls Remake) or Housemarque (Returnal). Even news of Death Stranding 2 – although developed externally by Mr. Hideo Kojima | its teams – would bring balm to the heart. We await the State of Play on Wednesday at 11 p.m.
