That’s it, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has been released on PS5… For the occasion, we give you our final opinion on this “plus plus” version of the PlayStation 4 masterpiece! What is it worth?

Since January 19, PS5 players can discover The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered – improved version of the second episode of the adventures of Ellie and Joël. You are used to it, like any good remaster, Naughty Dog offers a graphics boost, here in 4K Native and 30 frames per second (a little more if your screen has VRR). But, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Yes, the Sony developer pulled out all the stops plus a whole bunch of behind the scenes (audio commentary for all the cutscenes, three unfinished levels) and above all “Sans Retour”, a new rogue-lite mode. Nice arguments which pushed us to give the score 19/20. We explain the why and how in this article, but don’t hesitate to check out our Video-Test in the header!

An impeccable rogue-lite mode

We start with the biggest addition: Sans Retour. It’s simply a great idea, intelligently implemented, to revisit the very good gameplay of The Last of Us Part 2. Here, we keep the recipe TPS-infiltration-craft of the original game against all the emblematic enemies of the campaign (infected, WLF, Seraphites) but in random clashes where death makes you return to square one! There are five fights, governed by four different rules, before arriving face to face with the boss. To bring down this main adversary, there is no room for failure – but the strength of Sans Retour is, precisely, to never leave the player on the sidelines, even in the event of an error… The mode demonstratesa very nice pace of progression where you unlock things all the time (characters, rules, bonuses, penalties). In short, the rogue-lite experience makes you want to get involved | sublimes the sensations of Part 2, which become more “visceral” than ever. In short, it’s definitely worth it.

For the rest, we also loved the three “Lost Levels”, these levels cut from development which make their return with audio comments. Moreover, on this point, the entire cut-scenes of the adventure are now the subject of anecdotes from Neil Druckmann, co-creator of The Last of Us and co-president of the studio, as well as Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey and Shannon Woodward, the interpreters of Ellie, Joël, Abby and Dina… To watch everything, you will have hours (of pleasure). Overall, it’s a very good pick, and we encourage you to discover it on PlayStation 5.
