Dubious animations, camera shots focused on the posterior, half-serious statements as justifications… it was enough for this protagonist to be judged hypersexualized by some of the players. …but is already selling very well even before its release

Obviously, however, as is often the case, it takes much more than accusations from the progressive camp to impact the sales of a game. The staggering results of Hogwarts Legacy had already proven it last year despite calls for a boycott in response to JK Rowling’s transphobic comments, and everything seems to make us believe that the same fate could well happen to Stellar Blade. Indeed, The exclusive PS5 game is currently at the top of the pre-order podium on the American PlayStation Store, and rises to second place behind Sea of ​​Thieves on the French store. It is impossible at the moment to give a precise figure of the number of pre-orders to which this place corresponds, but there is no doubt that the game will sell very well.

If the “anti-woke” will surely rush to declare victory in the face of this information, in reality it is hardly surprising. Indeed, if progressives are fighting for a broader representation of all body types, it is because they are currently in the minority in video games and that has never stopped anyone from buying a game. The same goes for sexist stereotypes, the presence of which in many games has rarely impacted their sales. However, the diversity of representation in the cultural landscape (video games, films, series, etc.) remains important and there is still a long way to go in this area. In all cases, Stellar Blade seems to be convincing a large part of its audience, especially since the demo available for a few days has clearly had its effect in demonstrating the qualities of its gameplay. We still have to wait a few weeks to find out if the rest of the game will be up to par, but at the moment everything seems to be going in that direction.
