Retro gaming fascinates many players and one of them managed to fix the main fault of a 33-year-old Nintendo console.

The Super Nintendo is a legendary console in the history of video games. The machine arrived in Japan in 1990 and will be exported throughout the world during 1992. If, at the time, we played on our good old cathode ray TVs, today, the standard is 4K. But when you plug the machine into a latest generation screen, there is a display fault. A player has finally fixed this problem.

A display fault

If you own an original Super Nintendo, you must have noticed that the image was a little blurry on your recent screens. The reason for this is that there is a lot of “noise” in the image. At the root of the problem is “2CHIP”, a video output named after the processors used to transmit the signal. A problem specific to versions of the console released before 1995, since Nintendo subsequently corrected the problem by merging the two chips, which gave the 1CHIP (with a sharper image which still causes some minor glitches on some securities). It is not easy to find 1CHIP consoles today. Fortunately, thanks to modder Voultar, the problem is resolved. He developed two mods on SNES that work together to clean up the video output of the original 2CHIP machine. The first is called “Edge-Enhancer” and corrects the color change defect which makes the image blurry and the second is called “2CHIP Bypass” allows the system to bypass excessive noise which parasitizes the signal. The modder gave a complete description of how mods work on the channel Youtube from My Life in Gaming. Voultar launched its website to sell an installation kit and its various mods.

The SNES, a legendary console

The Super Nintendo is recognized today as a console that has many classics. How not to start by citing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, considered by many to be the best 2D episode of the series. Chrono Trigger, one of the best JRPGs of all time, with its striking characters and exciting story. We can’t miss Super Metroid which helped forge the popular genre known as Metroidvania. In short, plenty of reasons to get your Super Nes out of the attic.
