Nintendo has just done something crazy and offered itself a new studio for its ports. While this bodes well for the Nintendo Switch 2, the quality of the games will be something to watch out for.
With the announcement (still very timid) of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans hope the Japanese company will be ambitious. From the little we know about the future machine, it would finally be able to reach 60 FPS and 1080p on all its titles. Some already call it “the pocket PS4”. Unfortunately, for the moment we do not yet have any official information, but 2025 will certainly be a very important year for the firm, since it could finally present its new console. Only time will tell. In any case, many players are already wondering what types of original games could be developed on it. With this surprising takeover from Nintendo, the studio could already leave some clues behind.
From Embracer to Nintendo
One of the biggest buyers in the video game industry is certainly Embracer; who is nicknamed the ogre of video games. However, its strategy has already shown its flaws since several hundred employees have been laid off, and certain studios dismantled or abandoned. However, it seems that Nintendo has decided to save some furniture, since it has just acquired Shiver Entertainment, specialized in portages. He had already collaborated with the Japanese to bring the infamous and graphically very questionable Mortal Kombat 1, but also Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy to Nintendo Switch.
As of now, it is not yet clear what kind of work will be done by Shiver Entertainment. On the other hand, we can assume that this will serve to Nintendo’s new strategy regarding its Switch 2. It would not be surprising if Big N decided to increase the number of ports between the two consoles, but why not also with Sony and Microsoft. Until then, the Switch had hosted very few triple AAAs from other consoles. However, it should be noted that, each time, the Japanese was late. It is hoped that the company will succeed in closing this gap with its new machine.
Will other studios arrive?
For the moment, it is difficult to say whether Shiver Entertainment will the only survivor of Embracer or not. However, in view of the statements of Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, several takeovers seem to be expected. “We will first work within the company with our developers, who fully understand the Nintendo brand […]. Additionally, many of our external partners have gained in-depth knowledge of the studio […] And we would like to strengthen these links“, he confided during a call with investors.
