Since the emergence of so-called sandbox video games like Minecraft or the integration of map creators, it is not uncommon to see players mixing universes. Something we saw again recently: a player decided to reproduce Whiterun from Skyrim in Far Cry 5.

A representation on scale

A player passionate about Far Cry 5 set out to recreate the iconic city of Whiterun from The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, using the game’s map editor.

On YouTube, Mojo Swoptops unveiled a short video presenting the progress of its project. The video takes us for a stroll down the main street of his recreation of Whiterun. Starting at the entrance to the town, we discover the inn “Le Chasseur Ivre”, the boutique “La Guerrière” before reaching the market square, where “La Jument Pavoisée”, “l’Épicerie de Belethor” and the home of Severio Pelagia. Mojo Swoptops explains:

I chose not to reproduce the city identically and to have fun by integrating other interesting elements at my disposal. So far, I’m happy with the result, but it’s clear that nothing will match the quality and artistic direction of Bethesda’s original work.

If for the moment only the main street is accessible, this reconstruction of Whiterun should eventually encompass the entire city and in particular the cloud district with Nazeem, a character hated by the community.

All Whiterun is planned

It was on Reddit that Mojo Swoptops also shared his creation. A comment ironically asks: “Have you already built the Cloud Quarter? Ah, what am I saying? Of course not”. Faced with this joke, Mojo Swoptops wanted to reassure fans by specifying that he was already working in this part of the city.

This isn’t the first time that Mojo Swoptops has tackled the recreation of iconic Skyrim locations. Another of his videos features his version of Riften, the Thieves Guild’s base of operations.

A great way to illustrate that the community around Skyrim (and Far Cry by the way) is still present more than ten years after the game’s release. It must be said that the fifth numbered installment of the Elder Scrolls is a title to impressive longevity: it is one of the rare titles to have benefited from a facelift on consoles of three different generations (PS3/Xbox 360; PS4/Xbox One; PS5/Xbox Series). The players still have some up their sleeves and they’re going to have to. Although Elder Scrolls 6 is playable todaypatience is required for those waiting for this sixth numbered opus.
