Game of Thrones: No snow in sight – the Jon Snow spin-off is becoming a long way off

GAME OF THRONES

As in the long summer, the chances of snow in Westeros are currently very poor. In any case, the “Game of Thrones” spin-off about Jon Snow is no longer considered safe.

  • “Game of Thrones” is and remains a very successful series universe for US broadcaster HBO.
  • Nevertheless, they don’t want to confirm new series too hastily; only the best projects receive the green light.
  • A spin-off about Jon Snow is currently not included.

It actually all sounded quite promising: Kit Harington was increasingly committed to a spin-off about his character Jon Snow from “Game of Thrones”, in which Jon’s story would be continued. Thus, the plot would be told beyond the finale of GoT and give the Westeros saga the chance to adapt its inglorious ending again.

Although the project was never officially confirmed, George RR Martin and Daenerys actress Emilia Clarke spoke about Harington’s plans. Since HBO is always looking for new “Game of Thrones” series, “Snow”, the working title of the series, seemed to be only a matter of time. Now it is over.

Could also get a spin-off: Corlys Velaryon

The second season of “House of the Dragon” starts in summer 2024 and the spin-off “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” is scheduled to film next year. Further “Game of Thrones” projects have not yet been confirmed by HBO and it will probably stay that way for a long time, if you believe the words of HBO CEO Casey Bloys.

We have Game of Thrones scripts in development all the time. We confirmed “Dunk and Egg” in the spring. I wouldn’t say it’s in [der GoT-Welt] There’s something else that’s close to being confirmed, but we’re constantly working on different scripts and ideas.

So the spin-off about Jon Snow is not yet a sure thing. Although HBO enjoyed great success with “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon”, one should not forget that a pilot episode for the spin-off “Bloodmoon” was also shot and then rejected. The pay-TV broadcaster from the USA doesn’t just wave through every project with a connection to “Game of Thrones”.

In addition to “Snow,” there are three other spin-offs being discussed, although they all take place before “Game of Thrones.” They are about Aegon I Targaryen, Nymeria and Corlys Velaryon. HBO is probably waiting to see the success or failure of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” before confirming further series.
