The second “Game of Thrones” prequel after “House of the Dragon”: HBO is planning a series about the founder of the Targaryen dynasty.

The US broadcaster HBO is planning a new series from the “Game of Thrones” universe. This reports “Variety” citing exclusive sources. Like the “House of the Dragon” launched in 2022, the new project is said to be a prequel to the successful parent series.

According to the report, the new prequel series will be introduced by a feature-length film. However, there is no confirmation of this yet. Nothing is known about possible cast members or behind-the-scenes personnel as the project is still in its early stages.

Aegon I Targaryen prequel

According to “Variety”, however, it is known which character should be the focus of the prequel: Aegon I. Targaryen. Also known as Aegon the Conqueror or Aegon the Dragon, the ruler is the legendary founder of the Targaryen dynasty. With his three dragons he once conquered six of the seven independent kingdoms. He established the dominance of House Targaryen over Westeros and built the Iron Throne known from “Game of Thrones”.

In the mother series, Aegon I Targaryen is only mentioned, it takes place a good 300 years after his unification of the kingdoms. One of his descendants is Jon Snow.

After the end of the successful series “Game of Thrones” in 2019, HBO promised several prequel series from the cosmos conceived by George RR Martin (74). But so far only “House of the Dragon” saw the light of day.
