With “House of the Dragon” a spin-off of the hit series “Game of Thrones” is planned. Work on it has now officially started.

Production for the announced “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon” is in full swing. The US broadcaster HBO has now confirmed this on Twitter. Several pictures of the actors were published on the short message service, who are apparently currently in a first reading. “The HBO original series #HouseoftheDragon is officially in production,” it says, among other things.

“House of the Dragon” is a prequel and takes place 300 years before the original series. The spin-off will tell the story of Daenerys’ (Emilia Clarke, 34) ancestors when the historic downfall of the Targaryen House began. HBO also confirms once again that the series is expected to start in 2022.

The broadcaster also shared six individual photos of previously confirmed actors in a group picture. The recordings show: Rhys Ifans (53, “Notting Hill”) as Otto Hohenturm, Olivia Cooke (27, “Bates Motel”) as Alicent Hohenturm, Matt Smith (38, “The Crown”) as Daemon Targaryen, Paddy Considine (47, “Hot Fuzz”) as King Viserys Targaryen, Steve Toussaint (56, “Red, White and Blue”) as “The Sea Serpent” and Emma D’Arcy (28, “Truth Seekers”) as Rhaenyra Targaryen.

According to various media reports, the US streaming service HBO Max is also planning five more series in the “Game of Thrones” universe. A project with the title “9 Voyages”, spin-offs with the names “Tales of Dunk and Egg”, “10,000 Ships” and “Flea Bottom” as well as an animated “Game of Thrones” series, the does not yet have a title.
