While the development of certain spin-offs of Game Of Thrones is progressing well at HBO and its streaming platform, Max, others are at a standstill. This is the case with the idea for a spin-off series devoted to Jon Snow that his interpreter, Kit Harington, hoped to set up. According to the actor, the project will ultimately not see the light of day.
One less spin-off
It was during an interview with Screen Rant that Kit Harington, who played the character of Jon Snow during the eight seasons of Game Of Thronesrevealed that the character won’t be returning to our screens anytime soon:
“Right now the project is no longer in development because we couldn’t find a story to tell that we were all excited about. So we decided to put the idea aside for now. Maybe that in the future we will come back to it, but for the moment, no. The project is on the shelf.”
It was in 2022 that we heard for the first time about this idea for a spin-off on Jon Snow, which could have followed the adventures of the latter beyond the Wall, after the end of Game Of Thrones. The details of the project were then kept secret, as no one wanted to say too much before it really took shape.
With Harington’s announcement, we now understand that the Jon Snow spin-off has not found the right angle to tell the rest of the story of the fallen member of the Night’s Watch. Perhaps this is due to a lack of writing on the subject from the father of Game Of ThronesGeorge RR Martin?
Indeed, most of the series from this universe are based on the work of the American author, whether it is House of the Dragon or other series in preparation like A Knight of the Seven Kingdom: The Hedge Knight.
But as Martin has not yet finished the novels in the saga Game Of Thrones, his ambitions regarding Jon Snow remain unclear. So who knows, maybe the bastard of Winterfell will return to our retinas one day, if Martin finds new things to say about him.
In the meantime, you can rediscover the journey of this key character in the flagship HBO series, available for streaming via Prime Video’s Warner Pass.
