Apparently another "Game of Thrones" spin-off is in the planning stage. This time it is an animation series.

Apparently the US streaming service HBO Max is planning to expand the universe of "Game of Thrones" with an additional spin-off. The industry magazine "The Hollywood Reporter" reports, citing several internal sources, that an animation series based on George R.R. Martin's (72, "Fire and Blood") books are under discussion.

The series should be thematically based on the popular HBO show and is intended for an adult audience. The project around the animation series, which has not yet been named, is still in its infancy. It is still unclear whether it will come to production. HBO Max didn't want to comment on the news.

The animation project joins a series of planned "Game of Thrones" spin-offs. In the spring, the shooting of the first prequel "House of the Dragon" with Matt Smith (38) in one of the leading roles should begin. The second spin-off "Tales of Dunk and Egg" is supposedly still in the early stages of development. HBO Max is apparently planning to offer customers a "Game of Thrones" universe – similar to what streaming competitor Disney + is already doing with "Star Wars" and Marvel.

The streaming service HBO Max is currently available in the US and plans to expand in Latin America and Europe in 2021. However, the provider will not come to Germany for the time being. Content from the broadcaster HBO and the streaming service can be streamed on Sky in Germany.
