Game of Thrones: Work on the prequel "House of the Dragon" starts

"House of the Dragon" should be on TV in 2022. Now HBO has reportedly started casting for the "Game of Thrones" prequel.

The US broadcaster HBO apparently started to launch the planned "Game of Thrones" prequel. The casting for the highly anticipated series "House of the Dragon" has begun, "Entertainment Weekly" reports, citing insiders. The TV show is scheduled to be broadcast in 2022.

The project was announced in October last year and ten episodes are said to have been commissioned. The material for "House of The Dragon" was already provided by author George R.R. Martin (71) in the form of the approximately 900-page work "Fire and Blood – First Book: Rise and Fall of the Targaryen House of Westeros". Showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik can therefore look forward to plenty of background history around the Targaryen house. The new TV series is set to play 300 years before the events of "Game of Thrones". Sapochnik, who has already directed "Game of Thrones", is said to take a seat in the pilot's episode and other episodes.

Replacement for "The Long Night"

"House of the Dragon" is to replace a prequel offshoot that has already been discarded. This should have been called "The Long Night" or "Bloodmoon". The Oscar-nominated Naomi Watts (51) was chosen for the main role, and many other well-known actors stood by her on paper. But a wacky pilot episode, which will probably never see the light of the TV world, was not well received by HBO and "The Long Night" was over before it started.
