Game Pass: These ten games to look forward to in 2022

Xbox Game Pass was the industry’s best subscription service in 2021 – the industry’s long-awaited Netflix for Games. This position was achieved by the huge number of titles in the library, but also by their quality and the pace of new publications – the selection was supplemented at least twice a month.
While there were some major releases causing a stir in 2021 – including “Forza Horizon 5” and “Halo Infinite” – it looks like 2022 looks even more promising for the service when you look at the announced games that will be part of the subscription. COMPUTER BILD takes a look at the best games coming to Xbox Game Pass in 2022.

Weird West

March 31, 2022

“Weird West” is an immersive simulation from a bird’s eye view. That’s an atypical premise for the genre, but the game comes from Wolfeye Studios, the development team founded by Raphael Colantonio – someone with tremendous knowledge of the genre. Colantonio was the mastermind behind games like Dishonored and Prey from Arkane Studios.
The game is a dark fantasy reinterpretation of the Wild West, in which lawmen and gunslingers have to grapple with otherworldly creatures and a number of threatening groups. The game contains deep RPG elements and a two-player co-op mode. The title was originally supposed to appear in January, but recently there was a delay to March announced.

The eponymous “Nobody” can, among other things, transform himself into a horse … and then use a bow.

Nobody Saves the World

Early 2022

From the makers of “Guacamelee!” comes a new action RPG, which is characterized by a bizarre art direction and a strange gameplay system. Drinkbox Studios has turned the “Nobody” protagonist common in RPGs into a game mechanic called Shapes. They have 15+ shapes that you can use to transform yourself into a snail, ghost, dragon, and more. Each of these forms has unique mechanics and over 80 skills that make up your build. Online co-op and procedural dungeons are the icing on the cake.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl

It is hard to believe that players will be returning to the “STALKER” series in four months’ time. Heart of Chernobyl brings back the unforgettable open world RPG series set in the infamous area that was contaminated by a nuclear disaster in the 1980s. A 64 square kilometer open world and breathtaking next-gen graphics with a day-night cycle and dynamic weather form the perfect background for a branching, non-linear story. In addition, the game features unique weapons, legendary mutants, anomalies, survival mechanics – and luckily no more NFTs due to the negative reaction from fans.

Arkane Studios has been forging one innovative cracker after another for years. Will “Redfall” continue the success story?

Redfall

Summer 2022

Arkane Studios has been exploring new genres and gameplay mechanics since successfully completing the Dishonored franchise. The developer recently combined the immersive sim gameplay with the time loop concept and roguelike features, now it’s time to get into cooperative shooters. “Redfall”, which was already announced at E3 2021, will be released in summer 2022 for Xbox and PC and will lead gamers into a dangerous open world inhabited by vampires. Although the details are still quite sparse, it will be interesting to see how the French developer tackles its first FPS and open world scenario.

Scorn

October 2022

“Scorn” has been around since 2016, when an alpha build was released for horror enthusiasts and the press. Since then, due to a complicated development process, the game has disappeared and reappeared several times before finally returning as an Xbox exclusive that will be included in Xbox Game Pass on day one. The crude and nightmarish horror game is inspired by the works of HR Giger and is therefore strongly reminiscent of the sci-fi film series “Alien”.

Starfield

“Starfield,” Bethesda Game Studios’ first new IP in over 20 years, will be released on November 11th for Xbox Series X / S and PC only. Directed by Todd Howard, the game will transport the players into a universe that is at the beginning of intergalactic exploration, with space metropolises, wild and mysterious landscapes and factions with which one can form alliances or become enemies. “Skyrim” in space seems a pretty apt description. That, in turn, is exactly the kind of experience that many users seek.

Somerville

2022

Somerville is a new adventure game from Playdead’s co-founder and one of the main developers of “Limbo” and “Inside”, which features a side view and platform mechanics. Users take control of a family of three and an adorable little dog who are in the middle of an alien invasion of Earth. Your goal is to find help and protection from enemies to make sure the family survives the invasion – all in a story that doesn’t contain dialogue, but is told through the environment and animation.

Trek to Yomi

2022

The young samurai Hiroki has vowed to protect his people and his city, and for that he must embark on a journey through life and death. “Trek to Yomi” offers an epic story inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s films, a cinematic presentation that is so captivating even though it is “only” shown in 2D graphics, crisp fights, whether against swordsmen or supernatural creatures, and a memorable soundtrack that will make you feel like you are fighting for your life in feudal Japan. This is the new title from Leonard Menchiari (“Riot: Civil Unrest”) and Flying Wild Hog, published by Devolver Digital, one of the best talent factories in the business.

Replaced

2022

“Replaced” was presented for the first time at E3 2021 and is the debut title of the Minsk developer Sad Cat Studios. It’s a 2.5D action platformer where you play as an AI trapped inside a human’s body. If this strikes you as strange, wait until you find out more about the setting: it’s a retro-futuristic, alternative 80s scenario from the United States, steeped in cyberpunk vibes. The game is done in a complex pixel art style and offers a deep and dystopian narrative with free-flow battles and tons of neon colors.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

2022

“A Plague Tale: Requiem”, the successor to “Innocence”, is both graphically and narrative a further development compared to the beginning of Amicia’s and Hugo’s journey. In this new chapter in their history, the two brothers have left what they once called home and have arrived in the south of France. Here, however, Hugo’s curse will reawaken, bringing with it death and destruction (and so many rats, you can bet that).

Inspired by the will to settle the matter once and for all, the players arrive at a mysterious island that is even richer in suggestive landscapes and dangers. As with the three previous titles, there is no exact release date yet, but the next story-based game from Asobo is expected to appear in 2022 and land directly in Game Pass.
