ASUS presents its new ROG XG Mobile dock, exclusive to ROG Flow and equipped with nothing less than a RTX-4090 portable version.

A powerful boost for machines that are generally already well equipped, but which will be snatched up at a golden price: around 2,800 euros all the same!

ROG Flow docked to take off better

Announced at CES 2023, the next-gen ROG XG Mobile graphics dock is only for ROG Flow models. It can be connected to it through a PCIe connector, for a gaming experience called ” without compromise (if we forget that of the financial order).

For this, it embeds NVIDIA’s flagship graphics card, the RTX 4090 in portable version, with 16 GB of 256-bit memory, an AD103 core for a total of 9,728 CUDA cores (the equivalent of an RTX 4070 Ti / RTX 4080 in desktop PC version), and a TGP between 150 and 175 W. An additional 25 W dynamic boost is in the game (you never know).

ROG XG Mobile comes with two modules. The first displays the integrated 330 W adapter, while the second integrates the graphics card and the I/O. The portable RTX 4090 is cooled by a heat sink that takes the form of a vapor chamber, with a fan blowing hot air out of the chassis through ventilation ducts.

The I/O displays complete connectivity with a DisplayPort 1.4, an HDMI 2.1 port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port (combining Type-A and Type-C), an SD card reader, a 2.5 G Ethernet port and the socket power supply providing 330W of power.

A product of very relative interest?

The beast was first spotted at Yodobashi, a Japanese brand, priced at 399,800 yen (tax included). Or the exorbitant equivalent of 2,800 euros. Especially since the most expensive fixed versions of the RTX 4090 are displayed at around 2,000 euros.

It should also be taken into account that the ROG XG Mobile is only compatible with ROG Flow laptops, which can in turn carry up to a portable version of the RTX 4070 and which are therefore themselves offered at a relatively steep price.

The whole operation is therefore, so to speak, redundant, with a budget that can easily reach 5,000 euros, all this to benefit from performances similar to those of an RTX 4070 Ti/4080 in their fixed version. On paper, the ROG XG Mobile therefore presents itself, at such a prohibitive price, as a really false good idea.
