games become unplayable on PS3 and PS Vita

Players are reporting their inability to launch certain PlayStation titles on PS3 and PS Vita. A strange expiration date would be the cause of the problem. A bug ?

PS3 and PS Vita players had an unpleasant surprise when they wanted to relaunch old PlayStation games. As noted by our colleagues from Kotaku, some are encountering an error. In question ? An expiration date that prevents any launch of dematerialized titles.

Games that expire on PlayStation

Whether on Twitter or in the Reddit forums, several testimonials mention the impossibility of playing on PS3 or PS Vita software purchased via the PS Store, or even their entire library. Internet user Christopher Foose complained about not having access to Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger due to an expiration date.

Did PlayStation expire the PSOne Classics versions of Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger by setting the date for new downloads to 12/31/1969? It prevents me from playing my purchased games on PS3 and PS Vita.

And as said, this is not an isolated case. User boreallis78 adds:

I was able to download a few titles last night, but almost all of them showed an error saying the content is expired, even though the games were just downloaded. Then I re-subscribed to PS Plus to see if that would fix the problem, but no. Finally, I also did a factory reset of the PS Vita, to no avail.

In the other affected software, we find FF6, Tides of Destiny or Unit 13. All unplayable on the two PlayStation consoles mentioned.

Where does the bug come from?

According to Kotaku, the expiration date of December 31, 1969 has meaning and coincides with Unix time. A system for measuring the time that we have on computer products of this type. Finally it is also not improbable to think that the redesign of the PS Plus with the implementation of games from older generations creates some glitches.

Have you tried reviving old games on PS3 or PS Vita recently? Are you facing this error? On many titles? Tell us everything in comments.
