Games: New year brings fresh highlights

After a great year of gaming, video game fans are hungry for more. Here is a selection of titles that will be released in 2021.

Numerous video games such as "Among Us", "The Last of Us Part II", "Half Life: Alyx", "Hades" or "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" provided dozens of hours of fun for gamers in 2020. In 2021, however, it will be time for supplies again. Here is a selection of particularly promising titles that will likely make gamers' hearts beat faster in the coming months.

Professional killers, revolutionaries and monster hunters

In "Far Cry 6" (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Stadia) players will become guerrilla fighters in 2021 in order to free their homeland Yara from the clutches of the brutal Antón Castillo, the star of "Breaking Bad" Giancarlo Esposito (62) is embodied. They not only have all kinds of weapons and vehicles at their disposal, but also animal helpers such as the sweet dachshund Chorizo.

"Hitman 3" will be released on January 20th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Agent 47 returns and carries out further attacks all over the world. As usual, the professional killer has a variety of weapons and other options available to complete his missions. Almost anything can become a deadly tool.

With "Monster Hunter Rise", video game fans will embark on a completely different hunt exclusively on Nintendo Switch from March 26th. Mighty monsters have no chance if one to four players face them to battle. Captured materials are used to create ever better weapons and equipment – which are also needed to confront even more fearsome beasts.

The popular "Harry Potter" universe will also continue in 2021 with "Hogwarts Legacy" (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X). The open-world action role-playing game takes all fans of the world of J. K. Rowling (55) into the late 19th century. In familiar and new locations, players master their spells, improve their talents, and experience life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In the coming months, the young Aloy will go on another adventure in a post-apocalyptic world in "Horizon Forbidden West" (PS4, PS5). Armed with a bow and arrow, she once again confronts enemy machine beings. A lot can be discovered in sunken cities, dense forests and on snow-capped mountain peaks.

You know that from somewhere

The co-op shooter "Back 4 Blood" (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X) sends players into the fight against never-ending hordes of zombies. It's no coincidence that the title and gameplay are reminiscent of "Left 4 Dead". The game, which is to be released on June 22nd, comes from Turtle Rock Studios, who were responsible for "Evolve" in addition to the zombie shooter.

"Gran Turismo 7" (PS5) ensures that the tires are smoking. The latest part of the long-running PlayStation frenzy is expected in 2021, but it is not yet known when the racing simulation will roll out of the pit lane. It will be particularly exciting to see what influence the adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller have on the driving experience. Different car models should differ, for example, in the weight of the accelerator pedal.

The new "Battlefield" is expected to appear in time for Christmas business in 2021. Much more is not known about the next part of the series at this point in time. Among other things, fans speculate that the shooter should play in a modern setting again and that there could be even more extensive cards on which the games are played.

At first, "Halo Infinite" (PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X) did not exactly cause a storm of enthusiasm when it was introduced to gameplay. However, the developers promised to take the criticism of the fans to heart and so the return of the legendary series in autumn 2021 should still be eagerly awaited by many video gamers.

It will be scary with "Resident Evil Village", the eighth part of the main horror series, which will be released in 2021 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X. Fans experience a reunion with Ethan Winters from "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" and Chris Redfield – always part of the universe – is there. More detailed information is expected in the coming weeks.

The new "God of War" (PS5) is also expected for 2021, which is currently often referred to as "God of War: Ragnarok", at least in the gaming community. However, so far there are hardly any more precise details about the game. It should be the successor to the 2018 part of the series, which takes place many years after the events of "God of War III" and takes Kratos to the north.
