Gamescom 2022: Conferences, dates, live… The complete program

After a month of June wiping the absence of E3 but still offering us long conferences with the Summer Game Fest, the end of the summer holidays is of course reserved for the Gamescom. This year again, many publishers such as Nintendo and Sony have decided not to participate, but that does not mean that the event will be devoid of interest, quite the contrary.

Gamescom 2022: Event dates and where to watch it live?

  • Gamescom 2022 will begin August 23 at 8 p.m. (French time) with the famous opening ceremony Opening Night Live
  • It will last until August 28, 2022 but this mainly concerns people on site with stands and other shows. The event not to miss, for video game announcements, is the ONL on August 23rd.

For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, Gamescom will offer a physical edition in Germany (paid ticket required), and will be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube worldwide:

  • Gamescom Twitch Channel
  • Gamescom YouTube Channel

Gamescom 2022: What announcements to expect?

Renowned Opening Night Live presenter Geoff Keighley specified that this year the opening conference would last a little more than 2 hours and would present about thirty video games. We must of course expect to see titles that have already been announced and for which we hope to have more details, but also a few World Premieres. Although the big names like Blizzard, Nintendo and Sony are not present, we already know that Xbox will put on a show and that other well-known publishers like Warner Bros Games, THQ nordic, Ubisoft, Team17, Sega, Bandai Namco or even 2K will be part of it. They may simply be physically present with a stand, but there is a good chance that they will be announcements/trailers during the ONL.

The games / publishers present at the ONL

Confirmed, we already have a few publishers who have publicly announced their participation:

  • Sonic Frontiers will be entitled to a long gameplay trailer: will we finally learn its release date which is still scheduled for the end of 2022?
  • Xbox will be present for the ONL but especially in physical with hands-on of several titles. A live is scheduled for August 25 at 2 p.m. including Minecraft Legends, Planet of Lana, Age of Empires 4 and A Plague Tale: Requiem.
  • Ubisoft has also confirmed its presence and fans are waiting for news from many licenses such as Splinter Cell, Far Cry, Skull & Bones, Rayman or Just Dance.
  • Bandai Namco will show us One Piece Odyssey, The Devil in Me and Park Beyond.
  • Return to Monkey Island
  • Goat Simulator 3
  • The Callisto Protocol
  • The creators of SubnauticaUnknown Worlds, will unveil their brand new franchise,

What more can you expect?

Even if Geoff announced that the show would be grandiose, do not expect dozens of spectacular announcements since we are in an in-between period where tons of great titles have already been announced and are scheduled for 2023 or later. Next year will indeed already be busy with Starfield, Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, Redfall, Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy 16, Forspoken without forgetting of course Hogwarts Legacy which has just been postponed.

And for this end of 2022, we can of course count on the long-awaited Pokémon Scarlet and Violet or even God of War Ragnarok if all goes well. In short, a string of headlines that promise a bright future for video games. Rather than waiting for new revolutionary announcements, it is therefore better to imagine an ONL with trailers of already known titles, gameplay and release dates.

The interest of a video game does not always go through the gameplay, the level design and the graphics. For a large part of the community, a good video game is above all a good story, good characters, intrigue, twists and development.
