Gamescom 2022 – Corsair presents the Xeneon Flex, a curving Oled monitor

The Xeneon Flex isn’t just a high-end gaming monitor for Corsair. It is a prestigious product, destined to become the spearhead of the manufacturer’s range of monitors. It must be said that its primary specificity is of the type to easily impress at first contact: it is an Oled monitor that is not only curved, but incurvable.

The screen that we were able to take in hand is thus equipped with two handles on its sides, which the user can grab to give it the curvature he wishes, from a flat surface (infinite radius of curvature) to a Particularly aggressive 800R bend radius. The thing would of course have been even more impressive if it had been a motorized mechanism, especially since the manual mechanism requires a relatively large effort before starting to move. But it still has its effect already. We also readily imagine a real usefulness, especially in the case of a use that would include entertainment as much as the creation of content: we could thus prefer the strongest possible curvature for maximum immersion in games, intermediate for watching movies and series, and zero for work.

The monitor was designed in close collaboration between Corsair and LG Display, the latter providing the Oled panel. It is an ultra-wide 45-inch panel, with a definition of 3440 x 1440 px (ratio 21/9), and capable of reaching a maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz. It uses the latest technology from the company Korean, promising a maximum brightness of 1000 cd / m² in HDR on a window of 3% of the total surface of the slab. Note, however, that this is a traditional WRGB panel, with one white subpixel per pixel; the color volume (measuring the level of brightness of saturated colors) is therefore probably not as important as that of a QD-Oled panel such as that fitted to the Alienware AW3423DW.

The panel is covered with a matt anti-reflective surface, and not shiny like that of LG Oled televisions, in order to guarantee as low a reflectance as possible and therefore a maximum feeling of contrast, even in a very bright environment. In absolute terms, the panel of course offers a virtually infinite contrast, like all OLED panels, whose blacks are created by total extinction of the pixels. The response time is almost instantaneous, Corsair indicating values ​​of 0.03 ms (gray to gray) and 0.01 ms (extinction) falling within the perfectly insignificant.

The connection includes DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 inputs. Like any monitor gaming high-end worthy of the name, the Xeneon Flex provides compatibility with the variable refresh rate to the Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync standards.

The launch of the Corsair Xeneon Flex isn’t scheduled anytime soon, but the manufacturer says it expects first deliveries to retailers in late 2022 or early 2023. No pricing has been confirmed for the instant.
