Gamescom 2022 – Epos enters the webcam market with the S6 4K

The Epos brand, historically a specialist in audio (it is the evolution of the former communication and gaming branch of Sennheiser), is getting into video. It announces its very first consumer webcam, the S6.

Epos has until now been one of those increasingly rare brands specializing in a single area – in this case audio, with a range of consumer products consisting exclusively of headphones and microphones. This will no longer be the case from this month of September 2022, since the manufacturer will launch its very first webcam, the S6.

Let’s be perfectly honest: this is in fact not really a first if we look at the Epos company as a whole, since it has already been offering videoconferencing camera-microphones in its professional catalog for a few months. But this time, it is the general public that is targeted, not only teleworkers, but also and above all players and streamers – evidenced by the fact that the product is announced as part of Gamescom in Cologne.

A common control app with Epos headsets

The S6 is equipped with a “4K” sensor (3840 x 2160 px) that can operate up to 30 fps in native definition, and 60 Hz in 1080p. It is intended to be perfectly functional in plug & play on PC and Mac, but can also be controlled more finely via the Epos Connect application, the same as for the brand’s USB or wireless headsets. The camera has a mechanical shutter, a plastic cover that can be visibly positioned in front of the lens, to reassure users who fear that their privacy will be compromised by a video stream accidentally (or hacked) left open.

Obviously, the painting would not be worthy of Epos if it were not completed by a neat audio section: the S6 thus embeds two noise-canceling microphones, which we are assured provide a 180° capture, so to be perfectly heard even when you are not directly in front of the camera.

The Epos S6 will be available during the 4th quarter of 2022, at an indicative price of €199.
