Gamescom visitors can breathe a sigh of relief: a major publisher has agreed


So far there have been a lot of cancellations for Gamescom 2022. Industry giants such as Sony, Activision Blizzard and Nintendo will not be represented at the fair. Now, however, Ubisoft has announced in a press release that it will be coming to Cologne in August.

There is finally good news for prospective visitors to Gamescom 2022. Publisher Ubisoft can be found at the Cologne Fair this year. In a press release, Ralf Wirsing, Ubisoft’s Managing Director Europe, stated:

The last two years have shown that our industry is able to create special moments with international appeal even in challenging times. Now, after two years full of exciting digital content and creative content creator concepts, we are looking forward to finally coming back to Cologne.

It is not yet known which games Ubisoft will show in Cologne. would be possible Assassin’s Creed news, although the big announcements are more likely to be expected for the 15th anniversary of the series in September 2022. Possibly the new open world project Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora presented. The next film is due out in December, so it would make sense to get the game in place already. Maybe there is finally a sign of life from Beyond Good and Evil 2 or Skull and Bones. However, according to rumors, the latter could appear (again) as early as next week.

Gamescom 2022: trade fair is becoming less and less attractive

After Nintendo, Activision Blizzard and other major publishers have already canceled Sony Interactive Entertainment is now following suit. This means that upcoming innovations such as God of War Ragnarök will be completely missing at the game fair.

Gamescom 2022: Cancellation by Activision Blizzard

Anyone who was happy to be able to play the new Call of Duty at Gamescom, as in 2019, will have to look for another highlight at the fair this year. Activision Blizzard will not be at the show in 2022. Games like Call of Duty, Diablo or World of Warcraft will therefore be missing from the stands.

When asked by GamesWirtschaft, the publisher explained:

As a result of this cancellation, Gamescom loses another major publisher after Nintendo, Rockstar Games and 2K and some of the most popular game series along with it.

Gamescom 2022 will take place without Nintendo

From the 24th to 28th August 2022 the Cologne exhibition center is once again the home of Gamescom. After two years of COVID-related interruption, trade visitors and fans are to come together again in the course of the event. However, the trade fair has to do without one of the really big ones, because Nintendo will not be present at Gamescom this year. The company behind game series such as The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and of course the popular Nintendo Switch console announced at the request of GamesWirtschaft:

Gamescom loses another major publisher. So far, among other things, also Rockstar Games (GTA, Red Dead Redemption) and 2K (BioShock, Borderlands) canceled. Among the trade fair participants who have been confirmed so far are Bandai Namco (Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077), Cook Media (Saints Row, Metro) and THQ Nordic (Darksiders, Outcast).

Nintendo is still planning events in Germany

In general, however, Nintendo does not seem to be averse to events in Germany. The company is currently planning to participate in the Main Matsuri Japan Festival in Frankfurt am Main (August 12-14, 2022) and the AnimagiC in Mannheim (August 5-7, 2022).
