The editor Nakon and the developer Appeal Studios are working on Gangs of Sherwood, a cooperative action and adventure game for up to four players in the universe of Robin Hoodwhile the minions of the Sheriff of Nottingham have become overpowered thanks to the philosopher’s stone.
The title promises a science fantasy adventure, to say the least, unprecedented in this universe, with all the necessary clashes. And justly, the developers explain the combat system to us and reveal some enemies and bosses in videos.
- A game with a deep and dynamic combat system
From its conception, the combat system aimed to make players feel that they are controlling legendary heroes, through dynamic and intense action phases. The title offers unique heroes with distinct but complementary abilities, to be able to progress alone as well as to create impressive synergies with others. Each character represents an archetype each with special abilities and moves: for example, Robin Hood, as an archer, has several types of arrows to attack from a distance, while Brother Tuck takes on the role of a tank and can charge his attacks to do more damage, but also generate a shield to protect his allies. In battle, the heroes can also use their Rebel Instinct, a special mode allowing them to temporarily boost their abilities. It is also possible for them to equip each character with fragments granting them different types of powers such as regeneration or paralysis.
- A wide variety of enemies and bosses
Gangs of Sherwood offers players the opportunity to face many types of enemies: light units, long-range units, mini-bosses and of course, the easily identifiable main bosses, each of which has its own dedicated arena. Individually, some won’t pose any problem for our heroes, but may prove tougher when present in large numbers. In addition, the enemies have different roles, and can for example confer bonuses on their allies if they are not eliminated quickly, while others will strive to pursue the player on the ground to interrupt their chain of combos . The different types of enemies are also distinguished by their design, in particular certain bosses sporting elements reminiscent of animals such as the lion, like the English coat of arms of medieval times. Finally, the developers made sure to give each enemy unique attributes, which will require players to adopt specific strategies to defeat them. The Bruiser, for example, has a giant indestructible shield, so players will have to surprise him by attacking him from behind to defeat him.
