Garbage collectors’ strike: Attal calls on Hidalgo to “take measures”

“When we have such a situation piling up, it will end up potentially posing a problem of security or public health,” judged the Minister of Public Accounts.

For Gabriel Attal, the sad spectacle of trash cans piling up in Paris must end. Invited on France Inter this Monday morning, the Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts called on the mayor of the capital, Anne Hidalgo, to take responsibility. “I think that when we have such a situation piling up, it will end up potentially posing a security or public health problem.“, estimated the minister.

Yes I think we have to take measures, it can be requisitioned, as long as it still makes it possible to have a more livable situation for Parisians“, he said, while specifying to be”respectful of the social movement, of the right to strike“.

Gabriel Attal also judged that the socialist mayor of Paris was responsible for the renewable garbage collectors’ strike, launched by the CGT on March 7. “This is not a totally surprising situation, since the mayor of Paris had encouraged the agents of the town hall to strike. I recall that she even announced that she sometimes closed the town hall to encourage its agents to go on strike“, he tackled.

5400 tonnes of uncollected waste

Sunday, his colleague from Transport Clément Beaune had also castigated the inaction of the town hall of Paris. “No emergency measure, even partial, decided by the City of Paris. Yet another example of inaction and contempt of Parisians“, he had tweeted. To which the cleanliness assistant (PS) had ironically replied: “In my opinion, if the government’s pension reform is withdrawn urgently, incinerators and garages will be unblocked urgently…»

This Sunday, the town hall of Paris reported 5400 tons of uncollected waste. Three incineration plants at the gates of the capital, those of Ivry-sur-Seine, Issy-les-Moulineaux and Saint-Ouen, are also shut down, explaining these overflowing trash cans in certain neighborhoods. Note that the garbage collectors’ strike does not only concern the capital. The social movement also affects Nantes, Saint-Brieuc or Antibes.
