Garbage collectors’ strike: how the State can impose the requisition of personnel, against the advice of Anne Hidalgo

The Parisian waste crisis has swelled in recent days to occupy the political field. Faced with the anger and concern aroused by the heaps of garbage on the sidewalks, the town hall of Paris refuses to requisition garbage collectors on strike to ensure a minimum collection service. “We will not break the social movement“, affirmed Tuesday evening the first socialist deputy of the capital, Emmanuel Grégoire, sharing his wish to respect”employees’ right to strike“.

Refusal of the town hall

Almost immediate reaction from Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, who gave notice to the town hall of Paris to make these requisitions. The minister’s entourage evokes “sanitary conditionspotentially dangerous. “If the mayor refuses, the State will take over via the police headquarters“, we warn.
