Garmin has unveiled its two new high-end watches for trail running, hiking and outdoor sports, the Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) and Garmin Fenix 7 Pro.
A few weeks ago, we learned thanks to a leak on the site WinFuture that Garmin was about to launch two new high-end watches to compete with the one that was already looking to compete with the American brand’s watches, the Apple Watch Ultra.
Finally, Garmin lifted the veil, this Wednesday, on its two new high-end connected watches geared towards the most athletic: the Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) and Garmin Fenix 7 Pro.
Two new watches, six new formats
As their name suggests, the two Garmin watches integrate the most autonomous ranges of the manufacturer. Remember that the Fenix and Epix models are those designed above all for trail use, outdoor sports or very long hikes. The main difference between the two versions is actually based on the screen technology: while the Garmin Fenix 7 uses a transflective MIP screen, the Garmin Epix Gen 2 benefits from an Oled screen.
In detail, these are actually six new sports watches that have been unveiled by Garmin, since each is available in three sizes:
- Garmin Fenix 7S Pro: 42mm case, 1.2″ screen, 240 x 240 pixels, up to 11 days of battery life.
- Garmin Fenix 7 Pro: 47mm case, 1.3″ screen, 260 x 260 pixels, up to 18 days of battery life.
- Garmin Fenix 7X Pro: 51mm case, 1.4″ screen, 280 x 280 pixels, up to 28 days of battery life.
- Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) 42mm: 42mm body, 1.2″ screen, 390 x 390 pixels, up to 10 days of battery life.
- Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) 47mm: 47mm body, 1.3″ screen, 416 x 416 pixels, up to 16 days of battery life.
- Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) 45mm: 51mm body, 1.4″ screen, 454 x 454 pixels, up to 31 days of battery life.

These two watches stamped “Pro” of course take up the fundamentals of the Epix and Fenix models from Garmin, namely a long autonomy, even in dual-band GPS tracking with multi-GNSS, but also the display of the cartography, the strategies of PacePro pace, heart rate variability measurement, Stamina mode, ClimbPro ascent planner or display of points of interest on your route.
Flashlight, new heart sensor and ascent and endurance scores
Of course, the new Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro (Gen 2) models also incorporate their share of new features, starting with a dedicated flashlight with an LED. A function taken from the manufacturer’s ultra-durable watch announced a few weeks ago, the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar, but also from the Fenix 7X. In addition, only the Fenix 7 Pro and its versions are equipped with a solar glass capable of recharging the watch. A function that is not offered, even as an option, on the Epix Pro (Gen 2).
Garmin is also taking advantage of these new watches to inaugurate a new heart rate sensor, the Garmin Elevate Gen 5, instead of the Gen 4 integrated so far on the manufacturer’s watches. The manufacturer also offers ascent and endurance scores to improve, as well as running power at the wrist, expressed in watts, as well as the load ratio, a jet lag function or altitude acclimatization . Finally, both models incorporate advanced mapping with satellite images downloaded via Wi-Fi through an Outdoor Maps+ subscription offered at 60 euros per year.
The new Garmin watches are available from this Wednesday with prices that vary according to the formats, options and materials used. The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro is thus offered from 849 euros in steel version and silicone bracelet and can go up to 1249 euros in titanium version with titanium bracelet. For its part, the Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) starts at 949 euros (steel case, Gorilla Glass, black silicone strap) and goes up to 1249 euros (titanium case, sapphire crystal, leather strap).
