More discreet than a connected watch while being as complete, the Garmin Vivosmart 5 is a very promising connected bracelet. And in addition, it remains relatively affordable!

The American brand specializing in sports thus continues to turn to the general public and is trying to beat the pawn with the Fitbit Charge 5.

Vivosmart 5: a comprehensive health-focused activity tracker

Garmin doesn’t just produce complex sportwatches. The proof is with the Vivosmart 5, its brand new activity tracker. Very classic in its design, this bracelet is intended to be accessible to as many people as possible. It benefits from a compact format with dimensions of 19.5 x 10.7 x 217/255 mm, for a weight of 24.5 or 26.5 g depending on the size. The American wearable is indeed available in an S/M or L model.

The screen doesn’t splurge and is content with a classic monochrome OLED panel. On this point, the Fitbit Charge 5 does much better. It is rather on the data side that the Garmin Vivosmart 5 stands out. In addition to monitoring heart rate and number of steps, there is a good amount of metrics, some of which are specific to the American brand: Body Battery, SpO2, rhythm breathing, stress level, sleep score or even body age. The essentials are available to carry out a complete health monitoring.

General public requires, however, it is necessary to ignore certain functions, such as the VO2Max score or the recovery time. There is also no GPS chip integrated into the Vivosmart 5. This is a defect that is likely to go badly at this price level, since more affordable connected bracelets such as the Huawei Watch Fit are equipped with it.

Finally, Garmin announces an autonomy of about 7 days in normal use. The connected bracelet is also water resistant up to 5 ATM. A dozen sports profiles are available, including swimming and HIIT, not to mention the classic walking/running and cycling profiles.

Vivosmart 5 price and availability

The Garmin activity tracker is available today at an indicative price of 149.99 euros. It is available in three very sober colors: white, black and light green. Only the black model is available in large size.

As a snub to Fitbit and its Premium subscription, Garmin indicates in its communication that no subscription is necessary to take advantage of all the features of the Vivosmart 5. As a reminder, Fitbit requests a monthly payment of almost 10 euros for access certain data such as sleep score and continuous SpO2 monitoring.

We will not fail to give you a complete test of the Garmin Vivosmart 5 soon. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to tell us in the comments what you think of this new connected bracelet.
