Gas station robber – “I deeply regret what I did, it was madness”

It was a lenient pre-Christmas sentence for a young gas station robber from Mühlviertel: he received 24 months, only eight “serious”. In court, the young man, who was overwhelmed by his debts, also appeared remorseful.

“I just lost track of my finances. I had the feeling that things were getting tighter and my partner and her two children had to move out. New bills kept coming. I simply didn’t see any other way out.” This is how a 21-year-old from the Freistadt district explained at his trial for aggravated robbery on Thursday in Linz why he opened a gas station shop in Linz-St. on July 19th shortly before 10 p.m. Magdalena had attacked – masked with a scarf and armed with a 15 centimeter long folding knife. In the store he held the knife under an employee’s nose and shouted: “Robbery, give me money!”. Arrest at work The employee handed him 2,750 euros, which the robber stuffed into a gray cloth bag. He then fled, throwing away his hooded sweater and the looted cash drawer. On October 11th – when he was just on his third day of work at his new job – the boy was arrested by LKA investigators. After initially denying it, he made a full confession. Since then, the previously blameless 21-year-old has been in custody in Linz. Mild verdict In court he said: “I deeply regret what I did. It was really crazy. The humane and lenient sentence: 24 months in prison, 16 of which were conditional.
